Massage Chairs Too Expensive? Here’s Our 3 Massage Chair Alternatives!

Massage chairs can be expensive, and for people who are a lot younger, probably isn’t the best investment to be making at this time.

But what if you wanted to recreate the same feeling at home, while also feeling like you’re getting that experience you need?

This blog is going to touch on how you can find some alternatives to get into that massage chair routine that you want, without needing to spend so much on a massage chair to begin with!

TLDR: Massage chairs can be quite expensive, however through some body massagers, such as massage pillows or portable massage chairs, you would be able to get a similar experience that can definitely help fix your pain.

I’ve got more to tell you though, so don’t just stop here.

Let’s go into the first section.

How You Can Recreate the Massage Chair Experience At Home!

A massage chair is split into the upper body massage and the lower body massage. The muscle groups that the massage chair targets are as follows:

  • Neck
  • Back
  • Hips and Waist
  • Arms
  • Shoulders
  • Calves
  • Feet

Meaning to recreate this, we’ll need to buy some things which can massage all of those together!

Massage Chair Alternative #1: A Portable Massage Chair

This one felt rather obvious, but as a portable massage chair, it carries the same basic functions as a regular massage chair, as it massages you from your neck, all the way down to your lower back.

Our Estilo Prime Plus portable massage chair is a great example of this, and even comes with a remote control to help you adjust the mode of your massage.

At it’s current price of only $449, it gives you the massage chair experience you would need, while also saving you lots of money!

As someone who’s used it before, here’s a quick gloss over some of the pro’s and con’s of this portable massage chair:

Pros:

  • Decently Firm
  • Heating included
  • Manual Controls Available
  • Massages your whole back and neck

Cons:

  • Only vibrates under your lower hips

Massage Chair Alternative #2: A Massage Pillow

This is similar to a regular body massager, except suited for being leaned on, or thrown on your back like a cushion!

A massage pillow is a great alternative for a massage chair as it performs the simple kneading function many like within the massage chair at a given point. While it cannot travel up and down your back like a portable massage chair can, you can simply adjust it at any point to wherever you need.

The best part about a massage pillow is that it can be used to massage your thighs as well, something massage chairs cannot do! Being as versatile as it is, the massage pillow can be placed on your neck, shoulders, back, arms, legs, and even calves.

As before, let’s give a quick look at the pros and cons of a massage pillow:

Pros:

  • Can massage your thighs (Huge Bonus)
  • Can be placed on your neck, back, shoulders, arms, thighs, hips, and calves

Cons:

  • Needs to be manually moved
  • Generally only has one massage style

One of our massage pillows, the iEnjoy 4D, is one of the best massage pillows in Australia currently. At the price of $249, it’s a real bargain grab for the amount of space it massages!

Massage Chair Alternative #3: A Massage Gun

Lastly, we definitely need to wrap this up with a massage gun. Similar to a massage pillow, a massage gun offers the capability for someone to massage nearly anywhere on their body!

All you need to do is grab the massage gun, put it where you need, and feel it press into your body!

While this is sometimes all you need, there is a limit on what you can do with a massage gun. You only have one choice of massage mode, and can only change the way it presses against you with massage heads.

In addition, you have to be able to reach the area with your hand to be able to massage it, and hold it there for that time.

So to wrap this up, let’s look at the pros and cons of a massage gun:

Pros:

  • Can massage you anywhere on your body
  • Can adjust the speed to press down faster on your muscles

Cons:

  • Needs to be manually moved
  • Only presses in and out
  • Can only massage places where you can reach

If this looks like something you’d need, then we’re happy to say we also have some incredible massage guns of our own!

Conclusion: Massage Chair Alternatives Exist, But Aren’t As Convenient

If you’re looking to massage a majority of the places that a massage chair could, then these massage chair alternatives might be a great choice for you.

We went from portable massage chairs, which are super convenient, to massage pillows, which are a mix between performance and convenience, all the way to the massage gun.

While we all understand feeling pain, everyone experiences it differently, meaning there is no “best alternative” scenario. However, what I have hopefully done in this blog is try and summarise why you would choose one over the other, and have linked some great products you could buy.

If you’re still in that decision making process, and perhaps still considering a massage chair, then I’ve got a great blog you might want to check out! If you want to know whether a massage chair is worth it in the long run, then do check out this blog!
